                                                       MOUNTAIN BIRCH

Hey y'all I learned a new trick with my grandpa this weekend!  When we were walking in the mountains he showed me this tree that if you break off a branch, it smells like spearmint.  The tree is called a mountain birch.  You can chew on it to.  It doesn't taste as good though it just tastes like wet soft bark.  It's a cool little fact and I hope it taught you something new.

                                                             SHOOTING

Normally I like to post about surviving in the wild, but today I want to talk about shooting, preferably shotguns.  Now there are many different ways a gun is built and all of them are made and shoot differently, but most load the shell in the same way.  If you get a single shot shotgun, there should be a button outside of the trigger ring that makes the top of the barrel  pop open and you can load in the shell.  If you have a pump-action, than there is a chamber on the bottom of the gun just above the trigger ring that you can push 3-5 shells into. Now, when you're ready to shoot, put the stock of the gun into your shoulder tight.  Look right down the end of the barrel and line up the bead with your target. After that, you pull the trigger and see what you hit.

                                                          HUNTING PART 2

Hey, sorry I  haven't posted in a while, but it's been hard getting good advice.  Now I know that when your in the wild it is actually easier to hunt smaller game with snares.  Snares are tools that you set up that are sort of like booby traps but for animals. a basic snare to set is a trip wire.  An animal walks through the wire and a stick that is sharpened on a platform comes rushing around the corner and stabs the animal.  Hopefully when you're done, you could have yourself dinner.

                                                             SASSAFRAS

Sassafras is plant that will sustain you if you have no food at all.  It is mainly used for chewing and it tastes like mint.  But it will work just like bubblegum, if your hungry find and start chewing it and if you have enough you should be able to sustain until you find food, but you have to find food fast!

                                                               HUNTING

When out in the wild trying to survive, you need to know how find food.  You have three options, Number 1,  you can eat plants.  Number 2,  fishing.  And Number 3,  Hunting for food.  Today we're going to worry about Hunting turkeys.  When looking for turkeys, you need good camo ( which you can get from dirt, mud, leaves and such.)  You will need a good hiding spot near turkey roosts  where you can find turkey scratches on the ground and a good call from your voice.  Which tends to sound like a chicken giving birth but more quiet.  Once you do that in a couple of hours you might have a turkey coming your way.

                                                           Easy Hunting

Since it's been raining a lot lately because of the hurricane, the ground is covered with mud. use that to your advantage. Mud means it's easier to hunt than when it's dry. Mud picks up tracks better so if you find some you can follow them and look for the kill

This project is going great! I'm learning a lot of new things and I'm about to meet with my mentor and hopefully will learn so much more on how to survive in the wild!
